Narrative Text

Narrative text consists of words that are ordered to tell a story or explain a course of events.
  • The purpose of narrative text is to inform a history, to inspire like a biography of someone else. Or just to entertain like a short story or a novel.
  • Who's the audience or who enjoy the narrative text? They can be ourself, general readers, our friends, or the public such as the internet.
  • Narrative text has 2 kinds of text. A formal text and an unformal text. We can say that the text is a formal text if we find the title of the text, author's name, and we can see from the paragraph.
  • The organization of narrative text is chronology, process, and compare/contrast. Chronology is about a plot or event in the story. Every scene have a process, from introducing the main character with another characters, how the characters got a problem, until how they could solve the problem. And compare/contrast. The narrative text must be contrast between chronology and the process.
  • In a narrative text, we can use 2 kinds of sentence structures. A complex sentence and a simple sentence. We can say that narrative using a complex sentence if there are many words which cannot be understood by us. And a simple one is easy to be understood.
  • In writing, grammar is the most important thing. The first is past tense. Past tense is usually used in the story or history. Narrative is not always using a past tense, sometimes we can use a present tense if we will describe something or someone. But, describing in a narrative text is more simple than a descriptive text.
  • And the last thing we should have to noticed is a vocabulary. Same as a sentence structures, there are 2 kinds of vocabulary. We can say a complex vocabulary if we cannot understand what the words are. And a simple vocabulary is the simple one to be understood.
